Author’s Note:  I would like to say I tackled my TBR aggressively in both 2025 and 2026, but the truth is—as is with life, I planned and the universe had other ideas for me.

In February of 2024, I decided to spend an entire month in California. Even though I’ve traveled there annually for the past few years, I wanted to see what it would be like to live there, even if it still wasn’t exactly reality. I rented an Airbnb two minutes from my best friend and we had the time of our lives. There’s something special about being nearly 50 and getting to spend more time with your best friend of decades. By mid 2024, I decided I wanted to spend even more time in California and lucky me, the woman who rented me my cottage was eager to give me a six-month least the following year.

In 2025, not only did I get to live two traffic lights away from one of my best friends, in the most perfect little cottage, in a town that I kid you not, has wild parrots, with a commute of not more than 20 minutes door to door, for six months… I also got to travel to places I hadn’t been before. Four countries in Asia and added Luxembourg to my usual European trip. I don’t want this to read like an excuse as to why I couldn’t get to my TBR and why I couldn’t finish my third book that is so close, so very close, to being done, but life had to be lived and things fell on the back-burner.

In 2026, I dealt with some very heaving things and that’s not even including what’s going on in the world right now. That being said, a novella had to come out before I could finish my third book fully. Is it because 50 is rapidly approaching? Perhaps. Either way, I’m excited for this one that actually came from a dream. Well a tiny part of it.

I will read again this year. I just know it.

2021 Reads

The Shadow of the Sun by Ryszard Kapuscinski.

I have to admit, the non-fiction I typically read is more of a straight-forward history book, so this was definitely a change of pace. This was a reporter’s account of his journey traveling throughout Africa in late 50s. It painted a new picture of Africa for me, from the little that I knew of the continent. From the politics, to the vastness of the lands, to what does happen to the remains of elephants after they die, I enjoyed being on this trip with this author.

Breaking Dawn, Eclipse, New Moon & Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.

Decided to finish the series in order to read the new one. Huge fan of the movies, was fun to revisit the story in the books.

Jaws by Peter Benchley.

This is one of my favorite movies and I was so excited to read it as part of book club. But wow, not what I expected! Fun read, though.

Zone One by Colson Whitehead..

Did I have to keep looking up the definition of the words within? Yes. Do I now use the word defenestration any chance I get? Also yes. Fun that it took place in a city and area that I know very well. Loved the procedural aspect of what happens when the zombie attacks are under control. Nice take on this genre.

Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King.

While this wasn’t his usual horror story, there were so many horrific scenes. Master of characters for sure.

Honeymoon & Honeymoon 2 by James Patterson.

Decided to read Honeymoon after watching James Patterson’s Master Class on writing. He referenced it often throughout and I wanted to match what he was saying about his process to it. My first JP book. They read like a rollercoaster! So fast-paced and fun. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Had to share! These gems came in the mail today as a book launch gift!

Sent to me by a friend, I’m still dying over the back of the earrings. Amazing!
